Cookware Standards from the Cookware Manufacturers Association

When you are buying cookware or bake ware for your family, do you know if it's safe and up to safety codes? You want to do the best you can for your family, and that includes doing some research before buying new cookware. Don't be caught up by advertising hype, check the company out, find out how long it's been in existence.
Ask about warranties, and safety. Especially look over the warranty, is it lifetime? Do you have to meet certain standards to keep the warranty? Check also to see if the company is part of the CMA. Some of the companies I found in their registry are:

1. Mirro
2. Regal
3. Anchor Hocking
4. West Bend
5. Lodge Manufacturing.

These are just five of better-known manufacturers of cookware.

The Cookware Manufacturers Association, founded in 1922 is committed to consumer protection, manufacturing excellence and good stewardship of our environmental resources. They are constantly testing new manufacturing techniques and new materials so we the consumers will have the highest quality cookware available. Here are the four standards that Cookware Manufacturers Association cover.

1. CMA members stand by their products and honor their warranties. Some companies offer warranties on their cookware, and when they are needed; they are nowhere to be found. CMA members are devoted to the industry and have been in business for over 100 years.

2. Member companies are committed to excellence and bringing the consumers the highest quality cookware possible. This means that CMA cookware seldom wears out and if it does, the companies honor the warranties. You can trust cookware that has the CMA seal of approval.

3. CMA is also concerned about workplace safety in its manufacturing industry. The men and women who work in the cookware industry are important partners and the CMA is committed to their safety and welfare. They frequently go beyond government regulations to make sure their workplace is safe.

4. The members of CMA are committed to protecting the environment. Most members are recycling and using waste reduction programs that are made to cut down on pollution and the waste of raw materials.

The CMA has voluntarily published a voluntary standard for cooking and bake ware. The 87-page book covers everything from materials, to standard sizes and capacities.
The last manual was published in 2005.

I, as a consumer, am happy there is an organization committed to bringing the best and safest possible cookware into my home.
